The Macao Cultural Centre, under the auspices of the Cultural Affairs Bureau, presented last weekend (July 9 and 10) two shows of Carnival of the Animals. The multimedia circus was part of this year’s “ARTmusing Summer”, a series running since late June with a variety of performances and workshops specially selected to inspire babies, kids and grownups.

Staged by Australian ensemble Circa, Carnival of Animals brought big smiles on the audience who cheered with the juggling zebras, skipping kangaroos and many other beasts. Inspired by French composer Camille Saint Saëns’ delightful salute to feathers, fur and fins, the show whisked kids and grownups away on a trail of whimsical tales. Like characters on living 3D pages from a picture book, Circa’s top notch acrobats brought Saint Saëns’ classical music suite to life interacting with video animations. Touring more than 34 countries across the continents, Circa has been taking their bold vision of contemporary performance to families and festivals around the world.

Organized by CCM, this performance was preceded Last Friday (July 8) by two acrobatics workshops conceived for kids aged 5 to 12. Besides these activities, general public was also given a chance to go behind the scenes on a backstage tour scheduled for July 10 (14:00).

Tickets for the remaining ARTmusing shows are still available at various prices and discounts at CCM’s box office and Macao Ticketing Network outlets. For further enquiries please visit www.ccm.gov.mo or call (853) 2870 0699. Credit card ticketing hotline (853) 2840 0555.
