A Timeless Masterpiece Presented by a First-Class Opera Company, Bringing the Legendary Era of Ancient Egypt to Life
Akhenaten is the third installation of Philip Glass’ Portrait Trilogy based on the real historical legendary figures. It follows the rise and fall of Akhenaten, the ancient Egyptian pharaoh, in his quest to radically alter his society. Countertenor Anthony Roth Costanzo plays the pharaoh, while mezzo-soprano J’Nai Bridges plays Queen Nefertiti. Philip McDammer uses circuslike juggling to create eye-catching visuals that complement the show’s mind-blowing ritual music. Karen Camminsek made her Met-debut with this hypnotic score.
