Festive Series
“Christmas Concert”

Tuesday, December 23, 2008 20:00     St. Dominic's Church     Free admission

An icon in the world of Baroque music, Vivaldi and his ecclesiastical works were not generally appreciated until the early nineteenth century, some 180 years after his death. His D Major Gloria, RV 589 - acclaimed as a legacy on a par with J.S. Bach’s religious works - brims with affection and sympathy; this elemental and uplifting melody seems to be inspired by divine Providence, resonating heavenwards as if with a will of its own.

A religious piece on the same theme in Cantonese - the first of is kind - has been created by renowned Macao composer Doming Lam, drawing on his personal perceptions and experiences to celebrate Macao’s distinctive blend of Chinese and Western cultures.
