We are in Macao, amidst the pervasive casino fever. Everything is a game and there is nothing that can't be wagered. The Macanese youths Maco and Pepito are at the dawn of their professional lives, and before long, their destiny will be put to the test by an unprecedented bet. How long will fortune continue to smile down upon them in this new, uncharacteristic Macao, marked by the outward signs of a break with the past? This is the theme of Sórti Dóci, a new play from Dóci Papiáçam di Macau. The only local theatre group performing in the Macanese patois, they are by now a regular favourite on Macao Arts Festival programmes. Each year the drama group presents a new work rich in humour and the particular traits of the region.
