Antonin Dvořák (1841-1904)
String Quartet in A-flat major, op. 105
Never before had China been treated to a
performance of the complete cycle of Beethoven string quartets. Two years ago
the Shanghai Quartet made history, and a memory of that event will resurface in
the intimacy of the Dom Pedro V Theatre. With roots in many parts of the world,
the string ensemble will draw Macao a musical map that leads finally to Prague,
where Dvořák composed his last masterful quartet. On the way they make a special
stop in the East to explore the traditions of Inner Mongolia and the Yao
Minority and revisit a well-known piece by Jing-Ping Zhang.
