Tan Dun experiences music as discovery and seeks to share that discovery with his audiences. In his score for the film Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, Tan used an international musical idiom to express to the world the values and sentiments of China? culture and people.
Making a special guest appearance at this year? Festival, Tan Dun will conduct the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra and several international soloists in performing this Oscar-winning score, in a performance accompanied by scenes from the film. Second on the program will be Water, one of Tan? compositions in which musicians play a variety of unique instruments to evoke the constantly-changing and marvellous world of water.
