Organised by the Macao Museum of Art (MAM), under the auspices of the Cultural Affairs Bureau, and co-organised by the Yu Un Chinese Calligraphers and Painters Association of Macao, the exhibition “A Gathering of Treasures: The 70th Anniversary Art Exhibition of the Yu Un Chinese Calligraphers and Painters Association of Macao” will be inaugurated on 19 May (Friday), at 6:30pm, on the fourth floor of the MAM. The exhibition features 200 pieces (sets) of Chinese paintings, calligraphies and seal carvings by veteran artists, including Chui Tak Kei, Deng Fen, Luo Shuzhong, Situ Qi, Gan Heng, Lin Jin and U Kuan Wai, comprehensively presenting the artistic style of these veteran artists of the Association, and highlighting their contributions to the inheritance and development of Macao’s traditional arts. All are welcome to visit.

Since its establishment in 1953, the Yu Un Chinese Calligraphers and Painters Association of Macao has been dedicated to advocating traditional Chinese art, playing a positive role in gathering local artists and promoting artistic exchange at home and abroad. On the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the Association, the MAM specially organises this exhibition, presenting the representative works of the seven artists of the Association, which are mainly from the collections of the MAM, as well as from the precious collections of the artists’ families and collectors. The works covers magnificent landscape paintings, expressive paintings, calligraphies that employ spirited and vigorous brushstrokes, as well as exquisite seal carvings, showcasing the virtuosity and cultural sophistication of the veteran artists, highlighting the artistic accomplishment of the Association over the past seven decades, and reflecting the development and inheritance of calligraphy and painting in Macao.

The MAM will successively hold a symposium and a flower-and-bird painting workshop entitled “A Gathering of Treasures”. The symposium, hosted by the curator Lei Tak Seng, will be held in the afternoon of 20 May, in which the President of the Yu Un Chinese Calligraphers and Painters Association of Macao, Chui Sai Peng Jose, the Executive Vice President of the Association, Sio Chun Iun, the advisor of the Association, Nigel Szeto, and MAM researcher, Chan Kai Chon, will discuss the history of the Association and the anecdotes of veteran artists. The symposium will be conducted in Cantonese, with free admission. Interested parties can register through the “Activity Application” of the Macao One Account (activity.mo.gov.mo/activity-h5/) from today. Selection is made by drawing lots.
