The Macao Cultural Centre, under the auspices of the Cultural Affairs Bureau, presents Marcel Khalife in a concert that will bring the best of the Middle-eastern music to the Grand Auditorium on June 17.

Dubbed as one of the most prolific contemporary Arabic musicians, the Lebanese singer and oud master has been acclaimed world-wide for his avant-garde compositions and wistful optimism. Born and raised in a region shaken by a long war, Khalife never stopped dreaming about peaceful reconciliation in a multi-religious society. His contributions to the promotion of arts and culture have earned him recognition through numerous prizes such as the Palestine Award for music, in 1999, UNESCO’s Artist for Peace, awarded in 2005 and the Académie Charles Cros Award in 2007.

Combining the tradition of the oud (ancestor of European lute) with classical, jazz and folk idioms, Khalife has taken his new sound to festivals around the globe, from Morocco’s World Sacred Music Fes Festival, to Sweden’s Re Orient. Besides the live concerts, Khalife’s compositions have also caught the ear of reputed musical ensembles with his scores being interpreted by the likes of the San Francisco Chamber Orchestra and the Royal Oman Symphony, amongst many others.
Right before the concert, CCM is hosting a pre-performance talk devised to enlighten patrons on middle-Eastern music, revealing the mysteries of the oud, an instrument with a long tradition. Hosted in Cantonese, the session will also disclose the musician’s repertoire for the evening.

Marcel Khalife’s concert is presented by CCM on June 17, 2017. Tickets at various prices and discounts will be available at CCM’s box office and Macao Ticketing Network outlets, from April 2, 2017 (Sunday).
