In response to the Marine and Water Bureau’s plans regarding Lai Chi Vun shipyards in Coloane, the Cultural Affairs Bureau, with the cooperation and collaboration of the mentioned Bureau, had previously concluded the mapping works of shipyards X-12 and X-15. The Bureau has also received related objects with preserving value, including the shipyards’ signboards, wood structural components, Lu Pan’s memorial tablets, Tou Tei memorial tablets and crane components, among others. At the present stage, the Cultural Affairs Bureau will continue to cooperate with the Marine and Water Bureau and proceed with the mapping works of the other shipyards as well as will continue to maintain a close communication with the relevant departments.

The Cultural Affairs Bureau considers the shipbuilding craft is one of Macao’s important and valuable industrial technologies, and the collection of these objects will represent the physical evidence of this craft. The collection, organization and study of the objects with preserving value will provide a good basis for the next stage of the Cultural Affairs Bureau’s works.
