In order to celebrate the “World Book Day” on 23 April, a series of reading promotional activities integrated in the “Macao Library Week”, which has become the most prominent annual event of Macao’s libraries, organized by the Macao Public Library under the Cultural Affairs Bureau, the Education and Youth Affairs Bureau (DSEJ) and the Macao Library and Information Management Association (MLIMA), and co-organized by the Wu Yee Sun Library under the University of Macau, is organised in April and May. The “Macao Library Week 2017” is themed “Reading and Images”, aiming to broaden reading perspectives and explore the interrelationship between images and reading.

The relationship between “seeing” and “reading” seems to be a complicated issue. However, it is easy to explain through a child’s perspective since images arouse a child’s curiosity and imagination, motivating him/her to read spontaneously. In fact, life is filled with dialogues between images and reading. Starting from April, a series of activities will be held successively to kick off the Macao Library Week 2017, including talks on family reading by the Macao Public Library, in which local and foreign speakers will talk about how to choose books for children; creative crafts and reading workshops aimed at promoting children’s moral integrity; family reading sessions by DSEJ; and a German comic book exhibition and library science talks by MLIMA, among others.

In addition, the organizer will hold a number of activities from 22 to 25 April at the Old Court Building, including the Macao Library Week opening ceremony and promotion day, archived periodicals charity sale, book exchange as well as bookcrossing, which are very well-received by the public. During the promotion day, numerous activities will be organized at the Old Court Building, including reading accessories workshops, puppet shows in foreign languages, family reading talks and reading game booths, among others. Some activities are already open for registration. For registration and enquiries, please visit the Macao Library Week’s website at www.macaulibraryweek.gov.mo or contact the Macao Public Library through tel. no. 2837 7117 or 2856 9440 during office hours.
