This year the 11th China’s Cultural Heritage Day is marked on 11 June. In consonance with this year’s China’s Cultural Heritage Day theme, “Let Cultural Heritage be a part of modern life” and in order to encourage residents and tourists to visit the Historic Centre of Macao, the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC) organizes a series of activities in heritage sites, museums and libraries, including the exhibition “Memories of Moments - Macao and Lusophone African and Asian Regions in Photograph Postcards” and the thematic exhibition “Exhibition of Pedro Nolasco da Silva’s Book Collection”, as well as lectures. Admission to several heritage sites is free, thereby increasing the population’s knowledge on cultural heritage.

In response to China’s Cultural Heritage Day, the Macao Archives will organize the exhibition “Memories of Moments - Macao and Lusophone African and Asian Regions in Photograph Postcards” from 10 June to 4 December, featuring a selection of illustrated postcards from the collection of the Archives which provide a broader perspective of the urban-architectural, ethnographic, historic, natural, socioeconomic aspects of Angola, Cape Verde, the former Portuguese India, Guinea-Bissau, Mozambique, São Tomé and Principe, and East Timor, among other Lusophone African and Asian countries, and their relationship with Macao.

The Macao Public Library organizes the thematic exhibition “Exhibition of Pedro Nolasco da Silva’s Book Collection” between 10 and 18 June, from 1pm to 7pm, to be held at the Library of the IACM Building as well as a lecture entitled “Pedro Nolasco da Silva’s Book Collection - Thematic Talk and Guided Tour”, conducted by Dr. Lee Shuk Yee, staff member of the Macao Public Library, which introduces the book collection of Pedro Nolasco da Silva, an important Macanese official in 19th century Macao, as well as his dedication to the promotion of the Chinese and Portuguese cultures. The talk and guided tour will be held on 11 June, from 3pm to 4:30pm, at the Library of the IACM Building, and will be conducted in Cantonese; there will be no translation provided. Admission is free for both the exhibition and the talk. Reservations are available through tel. no. 2857 2233, during office hours.

From 8 and 12 June, the Jao Tsung-I Academy invites residents to join the colouring activity and experience the art of Chinese calligraphy and painting. This activity uses drawing paper with lotus paintings by Professor Jao Tsung-I. The participants can appreciate Professor Jao’s calligraphy and painting masterpieces while colouring the sheets in their own creative style. The Macao Chinese Orchestra also presents the concert “Chinese Rhapsody - Works by Peng Xiuwen”, on 18 June. Tickets are available at the Macau Ticketing Network.

On 11 and 12 June, the Guia Lighthouse will be specially open to the public from 10am to 5pm, while the Macao Museum offers free admission to visitors on those days from 10am to 6pm.
