Publication of album of photographs of the Historic Centre of Macao by Chan Hin Io

In order to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the inscription of the Historic Centre of Macao on the World Heritage List, the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC) launches the album Where the World Heritage Shines – Photographs of the Historic Centre of Macao. This album puts emphasis on the photographs of the Historic Centre of Macao, associated with descriptions, introduction of the historic heritage sites and interviews with the author. The album also presents the historic centre through the eyes of local photographer Chan Hin Io, featuring the festivities and religious activities related to the sites. Taken from rarely seen angles, these photos not only depict the city’s mix of eastern and western cultures, but also reflect the community’s close connection with the historic centre, leading the readers to look closer to the city’s cultural treasures from different perspectives.

Chan Hin Io is a senior photographer nationwide and is renowned in Macao. In recent years, he has been devoted to capturing Macao’s customs as well as the city’s landscapes, collecting several photography awards. Among his published works are Macao Neighbourhoods – Documentary Photography by Chan Hin Io, “Ancient Crafts and Trades” and “Life in Macao – Photographs by Chan Hin Io 2012”.

Where the World Heritage Shines – Photographs of the Historic Centre of Macao reveals the richness of Macao’s world heritage and the fascinating charm of the Historic Centre of Macao through various angles, shooting times and backgrounds based on different concepts and compositions. It features photographs taken from high altitude and high angle shot, which offer new perspectives of the city’s world heritage sites. Through the interviews included in the album, readers can get to know and understand the author’s professional experience, and better grasp the changes the Historic Centre of Macao went through and discover the unique stories hidden behind the photographs.

The album is priced at MOP120 and is available at the Macao Cultural Plaza bookstore, Portuguese Bookstore, Starlight Bookstore, Public Information Centre, Macao Historical Archives, Kun Iam Ecumenical Centre and at the Mandarin’s House Souvenir Shop.
