("Poem about Macao
The heady scent of the purple wild lavender and red of the cotton tree
Light wisps of smoke in a faint wind
An oriole flies at dusk on a March evening
In the green shade cast by the curtains of a myriad shops.")
Long dyke stretches like a loose whip across the southern bay
Then traces a winding path coiling it back like an emerald bun of hair
Clouds hang like trees from a high comer of the sky
Dawn comes fresh and clear filling Songshan
Peaceful living in tall buildings a hundred feet high
Clear and simple fleabane and lamb's-quarters nestle on the balconies
Expanses of mist billow as springtime swells to fullness
Anxious that the wind and rain may suddenly cool the warmth
Seabirds fly over a wide expanse of deep water
Foreign ships return to the place where the water and the clouds meet
Haggling in the morning fish market over which fish is the fattest
Shrinking back from the forceful bustle obstructing the way
Revealing flowerpots in the doorway where the erudite flora grow
Thriving orchids and chrysantemums are saturated with sprouting buds
Leaning against the window as if speaking to the spring wind
Cherishing the sweet fragance in the rosy evening glow")
("Coloane in the rain
The emeral sandy shores wavers
A faint curtain of pearls suddenly closing and opening
Eager to see the bunched clouds in the clear mirror of the sea
Come across the river despite the wind and rain")
[1968]
("Song for the New Year
Noble ambitions fill loyal hearts
Cannon fire in jubilation
Over Jinghai Lake on New Year's day
Boundless spring colour fills every house")
("The Visit to Macao of a Delegation of Chinese Writers"
On the riverbank of the Haojing we welcome this distinguished group of people
At their entrance flowers bloom and the sky is endlessly clear
We share the literature of China
Standing still to hear the expanse sound which shakes the sky")
