EDUARDO LUIZ BIOGRAPHY

1932— Eduardo Luiz Teles Fernandes, born on the 16th of July, in Braga, province of Minho, northern Portugal.

1935— The family moves for good to Vila Nova de Gaia, on the outskirts of Oporto, Portugal. His father, the sculptor Joaquim Fernandes Gomes, teaches him the basics of drawing.

1943-46— Attended the School of Decorative Arts (Escola de Artes Decorativas) in Oporto. Simultaneously explored the realms of music, dance and theatre.

1950— First solo exhibition:

• Galeria Portugália, Oporto.

1953— Group exhibitions:

• Galeria Março, Lisbon, Portugal — Winner of the Prize "Young Painting" ("Jovem Pintura"),

• "Second Art Biennial of S. Paulo" ("II Bienal de Arte de S. Paulo"), S. Paulo, Brazil — One of the artists of the Portuguese representation.

1952-57— Produced several theatre sets, namely for the Oporto Experimental Theatre (Teatro Experimental do Porto).
