A
group of local teachers produced eight large collages this summer to present the
harmony of Chinese and Western cultures. With “Macao in the Past and Present”
and “Luso-Chinese Harmony” as their themes, the works will be exhibited next
week in the Macao Museum.
The “2004 Creative Art Workshop for Teachers”, co-organized
by the Macao Museum, a division of the Cultural Institute, and the Education and
Youth Affairs Bureau, was held from July 2 to 30. The workshop not only enabled
the teachers to gain a deeper understanding of Macao’s cultural heritage and art
creation, but also helped to foster local art education.
Under
the guidance of the lecturer, the students of the workshop produced eight large
collages, which combined elements of the Macao Museum, local cultures, and
cultural heritage. In order to share with the public, teachers and students the
works of the workshop, the Macao Museum will hold the “Art Metamorphosis – Works
of the Creative Art Workshop for Teachers” exhibition from August 31 to
September 26 in the temporary exhibition hall located on the third floor of the
Macao Museum. Entrance is free.
The exhibition adopted the themes “Macao in the Past and
Present” and “Luso-Chinese Harmony”. The works combined rich Macao elements such
as street names, architectures, historic monuments, and the different techniques
of mounting and pasting of calligraphies, Chinese paintings and Western
paintings. When observed, one could see the names of Macao’s streets and alleys
written in calligraphies; the characteristics of Macao’s old houses are painted
with Chinese painting techniques. As for the areas of cultural heritage, the
teachers obtained their ideas in the Macao Museum and used many different
materials to produce the paintings. The colourful collages in the exhibition are
full of creativity and could fully represent Macao’s special role in Chinese and
Western cultural exchange. The collages of the exhibition are very peculiar and
reflect the mixture of Chinese and Western culture in Macao.
One of the important roles of the Cultural Institute is to
strengthen art education in Macao. Through this workshop, the Institute intends
to train more professional art teachers and to increase the level of art
education in Macao.
The Museum of Macao is open to the public every day (except
Mondays) from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The Museum is free on the 15th of every month
except when this date coincides with a Monday.
