Organised by the Macao Museum of Art (MAM), under the auspices of the Cultural Affairs Bureau, the “Lotus-Themed Exhibition of the MAM Collection” is currently held at the Kun Iam Ecumenical Centre, featuring 19 pieces/sets of lotus-themed calligraphy and paintings giclee of the MAM Collection, including original works by master of Sinology, Professor Jao Tsung-I; Director of the China Artists Association, Professor Yuan Yunfu; veteran painter of the Lingnan school, Situ Qi; and Macao veteran artist, Lok Cheong. The exhibition brings a wide variety of creative styles, allowing the public to appreciate different styles of lotus art and conveying the spirit of tranquillity and purity of lotus in traditional culture. All are welcome to visit.

In traditional Chinese culture, the lotus symbolises goodness and embodies truth, virtue and beauty. Since Macao is known as the “Land of a lotus flower in full bloom”, the “Lotus-Themed Exhibition of the MAM Collection” is specially organised by the Cultural Affairs Bureau at the Kun Iam Ecumenical Centre, symbolising the stability, peace and prosperity of the Macao SAR as a lotus in full bloom. In addition, the exhibition holds a parent-child activity “Drawing a Lotus Flower at the Ecumenical Centre”, in which participants can enjoy the fun of painting lotus with ink painting on canvas in a harmonious atmosphere, using a replica of the lotus paintings of the MAM collection.

The Kun Iam Ecumenical Centre was designed by Portuguese architect and sculptor Cristina Rocha Leiria. The inner cupola is designed by Macao artists Kwok Woon and Joana Ling, with the painting of symbols and texts related to Lao Tse, Confucius, Mencius and Buddha. A written introduction to the exhibition hall is available on-site, and visitors can scan the QR code to listen to the audio guide to learn more about the Kun Iam Ecumenical Centre and its painting design.

The “Lotus-Themed Exhibition of the MAM Collection” is held from today until 30 June 2023. The Kun Iam Ecumenical Centre is open from 10am to 6pm, including public holidays and is closed on Fridays. Admission is free. The opening hours of the outdoor space have been adjusted to be the same as those of the leisure area of Kun Iam Statue Waterfront, open from 7am to 11pm daily.
