IC organizes series of activities celebrating the Mid-Autumn Festival and the National Day

In order to celebrate the 69th Anniversary of the National Day of the People’s Republic of China” and the Mid-Autumn Festival, the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC, from the Portuguese acronym) organizes series of activities celebrating the Mid-Autumn Festival and the National Day.

To celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival, the dance drama Haojiang Moonlight Night – Dragon Boat Races will be held on 20 and 21 September, at The Venetian Theatre, at 8pm, presenting a story about the folklore of Lingnan through contemporary dance. The dance drama is jointly organized by the Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan Affairs Office of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the People’s Republic of China and the Cultural Affairs Bureau of the Macao SAR Government, counting with the support of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the People’s Republic of China and the Secretariat for Social Affairs and Culture of Macao SAR, as well as with the cooperation of the Culture Department of Guangdong Province, China.

The large-scale acrobatic show “Rainbow over the Silk Road” celebrating the anniversary of the National Day will be held on 30 September and 1 October at the Macao Forum, at 8pm. This acrobatic show, jointly organized by the Cultural Affairs Bureau of the Macao S.A.R. Government and the Department of Publicity and Culture of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Macao S.A.R., in cooperation with the Sports Bureau, supported by Shaanxi Provincial Department of Culture, introduces the legendary story of a Chinese trade caravan who struggled to open the Silk Road in the golden era of the Tang dynasty, and features stunning acrobatic art performed by the Shaanxi Provincial Acrobatic Art Troupe Co. Ltd.. Unlike traditional acrobatic shows, “Rainbow over the Silk Road” unrolls a pictures que history through breathtaking acrobatics, music, dance, costumes and storyline in five acts entitled “Dynamic Chang’an”, “Snowfield Fantasia”, “Mesmerising Dunhuang”, “Conjugal Fate in Persia” and “Passionate Rome”. Tickets for the above two shows are available at the Macau Ticketing Network, with various discount packages available.

Two concerts by the Macao Chinese Orchestra celebrating the Mid-Autumn Festival, entitled “Where Chinese Melodies Hover — Open Recitals”, will be held on 22 September, at the Jao Tsung-I Academy at 3pm and 4:30pm. Admission is free and the concerts are open to the general public. On the same day, the thematic talk “Tea and Health” will be held at the Macao Tea Culture House at 3pm. Residents are welcome to register for the talk and registered participants are advised to arrive punctually. 

During the Mid-Autumn Festival, the “Mid-Autumn Festival Lantern Riddles” will be held on 22, 23 and 25 September, at the Mandarin’s House, a world heritage site, from 2pm to 5:30pm, in which free lanterns will be offered to those who guess the lantern riddles, subject to availability; at the same venue the “Origami Workshop” will also be held. On the same dates, six sessions of the “Mid-Autumn Festival Wheat Clay Modelling Workshop” will be held at General Ye Ting's Former Residence, and another six sessions of the “Rabbit Lanterns Workshop” will be held at the Lou Kau Mansion and the Former Chong Sai Pharmacy, respectively. On 16 and 23 September, two sessions of the “Rabbit and the Moon - Fluorescent Clay Workshop” will be held at the House for Receptions of Taipa Houses, teaching participants how to use fluorescent clay to make a rabbit which can shine in the dark. On 23 September, the  “Small Garden” - Ecological Bonsai Workshop will be held at the Sir Robert Ho Tung Library, introducing knowledge about bonsai ecological plants and the design and production of bonsai. During the National Day, six sessions of the “Autumn Tea Art Presentation and Tea Tasting” will be held from 29 September to 1 October, at the Mandarin’s House and the Lou Kau Mansion, respectively, while another six sessions of the “World Heritage Modeling Workshop” will also be held at the Former Chong Sai Pharmacy, on the same dates. Some of the above-mentioned workshops are suitable for all members of families, and some of the activities require advance registration. All interested participants can register through the Cultural Affairs Bureau’s “Activity Registration System”.

The activity “Stories World” will be held at the S. Lourenço Library, the Wong Ieng Kuan Children's Library in Areia Preta Urban Park, the Taipa Library, the Ilha Verde Library and the Wong Ieng Kuan Library in Luís de Camões Garden, on 22 and 29 September, and at the S. Lourenço Library, the Wong Ieng Kuan Children's Library in Areia Preta Urban Park, the Patane Library and the Wong Ieng Kuan Library in Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Municipal Park on 23 September. The theme of the stories are related to the Moon Festival, in order to enhance children’s awareness of the significance of this traditional festival. Interested parties are welcome to participate on-site. In addition, from 29 September to 1 October, the activity “Stories World - Tales about the life of General Ye Ting” will be held at General Ye Ting's Former Residence. Interested participants can register through the Cultural Affairs Bureau’s “Activity Registration System” in advance.
