Macanese People — 1994

To complete the previous article, we put together this small photographic album of Macanese people. It was not intended to be significantly exhaustive and selective, but rather signficantly objective. Each person portrayed here reflects — some more than others, of course — the noble embrace of a solar Portuguese Summer and the sweet and subtle bloom of a Chinese Spring, and personifies the Four Seasons of the four hundredth year of Macao's existence, in the cyclical renewal of each leafless Autumn, as a new Winter approaches. And in this existence — miscegenated because it is tolerant — other fragances were blended in: saffron from India, balai from Malacca, cherry blossoms from Japan, among others, not purely by accident but by alliance, in permanence and in the Diaspora. This album is very incomplete. We would like to include many more people, but at least this is a start. The photos were taken by Eduardo Tang Meng Wai (except for the one on page 185, which was taken by Van Cheng I) in October 1994, in Macao.
