Quick-witted, distinguished pipa master Zhang Hong Yan is famous for her sentimental expression with merely a couple of plucks of the strings. Travelling with her pipa, she has performed in more than 30 countries. Zhang is committed to exploring the fusion of Eastern and Western music and unearthing new possibilities of Chinese plucked strings, having staged a refreshing and exhilaratingperformanceof Chinese traditional song Ambush from All Sides in collaboration with a Western symphony.

As the concert title The Story of Pipa suggests, Zhang will play plucked strings with her team and share stories about pipa with the audience. Assorted music, including traditional songs, adaptations of folk songs, contemporary original Chinese music, variations of Western classics and Ambush from All Sides, her crème de la crème, will be interpreted in mixed styles, constituting an all-embracing concert that promises splendor.
