Department of Exhibitions and Museums

1. The Department of Exhibitions and Museums is responsible for:

1) Collaborating in the process of drafting and implementing the museum policy and the plan for the development of the museums of the MSAR, improving the public service provision system in the field of ​​museology and promoting the planning, sharing and use of museum resources;

2) Encouraging the creation of coordination and communication mechanisms among all museums in the MSAR, and promoting mutual cooperation;

3) Coordinating, planning, managing, maintaining and using the spaces and museum facilities under the supervision of the Cultural Affairs Bureau;

4) Ensuring the coordination and articulation of exhibitions and the promotion of the museums under its supervision;

5) Promoting the study and promotion of local history, culture and customs;

6) Promoting the transmission of traditional local cultures, while fostering their innovation and development in the context of modern and contemporary arts;

7) Developing the educational function of museums and boosting the promotion and sharing of museum resources;

8) Promoting the application of technologies related to museology, conservation and restoration, as well as the training of human resources in this field;

9) Coordinating and developing cooperation and exchange between the museums of the MSAR and museums abroad.

2. The Department of Exhibitions and Museums comprises the Macao Museum, the Macao Museum of Art and the Division of Visual Art.

Macao Museum

1. The Macao Museum is responsible for:

1) Ensuring the collection, acquisition, study, cataloging, classification, conservation, exhibition and promotion of museological heritage that is relevant to the thematic areas of the museum;

2) Promoting studies on the history of Macao, as well as exhibitions related to local history, culture and customs, with an emphasis on intangible cultural heritage and cultural pluralism;

3) Developing museological education through activities aimed at the general public, including exhibitions, conferences and guided tours;

4) Supporting cultural activities related to local history and culture, particularly within the scope of educational promotion, publication of printed materials, production of audiovisual media and digital usage.

2. The Macao Museum is headed by a Director, with equivalent status to a Head of Division.

 

Macao Museum of Art

1. The Macao Museum of Art is responsible for:

1) Ensuring the study, collection, restoration, conservation, exhibition and promotion of works of art, as well as their application for educational and social purposes;

2) Encouraging local artistic creation, studying the collection of the museum and promoting artistic education, while developing its vocation as a centre of artistic resources;

3) Ensuring the periodic organisation of exhibitions and cultural and artistic activities aimed at the general public;

4) Researching and studying the history of local art;

5) Promoting, in the MSAR and abroad, specialized exhibitions, forums, studies, exchanges between museums, art marketing and consulting services in the field of museology.

2. The Macao Museum of Art is headed by a Director, with equivalent status to a Head of Division.

 

Division of Visual Art

The Division of Visual Art is responsible for:

1) Collaborating in the process of developing strategies and plans for the development of the visual arts, as well as carrying out their implementation;

2) Developing and supporting the organisation of cultural activities related to local visual arts, with a view to the creation of an artistic environment;

3) Ensuring the coordination, planning, management, maintenance and use of the spaces and community facilities earmarked for the exhibition of visual arts under the supervision of the Cultural Affairs Bureau;

4) Planning, organising and holding exhibitions in collaboration with other public and private entities;

5) Promoting programmes to provide artistic services to the community, as well as encouraging and supporting the development of popular cultural and artistic activities.
