Giovanni Battista Martini’s intermezzo Il Maestro di Musica (The Music Teacher), one of the classics of 18th century opera buffa composed in 1746, portrays an “inverted” generational clash between an old-fashioned student and a modernist music teacher. This is the cue for a reflection on the singing style and more generally on the evolution of taste, also filled with delightful winks about the mania and debilities of the teatro alla moda.

Relying on 250 years of artistic excellence, the Teatro Comunale di Bologna brings its vast performance and production experience to the Dom Pedro V Theatre in Macao. One of the earliest western-style theatres in China, inscribed in the UNESCO World Heritage List, the Dom Pedro V continues to be one of the most charming, richly decorated, and intimate theaters in all of Southeast Asia. Don’t miss this exciting window into the exhilarating world of Baroque operatic conventions!
