A. Dvořák: Cello Concerto in B minor, op. 104
G. Mahler: Symphony No. 1 in D Major (“Titan”)

Jian Wang returns to Macao to perform Dvořák’s Cello Concerto, the composer’ s last solo concerto, written in 1894-95 in New York during Dvořák’s third term as Director of the National Conservatory. Born and raised in China, Jian Wang was discovered at an early age by Isaac Stern, with whom he was featured in the celebrated documentary From Mao to Mozart: Isaac Stern in China. Stern’s encouragement and support paved the way for Jian Wang’s travel to the United States. In 1985 he entered the Yale School of Music, where he studied with renowned cellist Aldo Parisot. From then on, his career has gone from strength to strength. He has performed with many of the world’s leading orchestras, among them the Philadelphia, Boston, Detroit, Cleveland and Chicago Symphonies, the NHK Symphony, Zürich Tonhalle, Stockholm Philharmonic, Santa Cecilia, Hallé, Scottish Chamber, Mahler Chamber, Camerata Salzburg and the National Orchestra of France, working under the greatest conductors: Dudamel, Dutoit, Chung, Gilbert, Krivine, Sawallisch, Neeme Järvi, Eschenbach, Dausgaard, Wigglesworth and Harding, among others. Jian Wang has also performed at many festivals throughout the world, as both soloist and chamber musician.
