Seven voices soar, three orchestras play as one,
and four choirs share the stage as musicians from Macao and other parts of the
world mount Gustav Mahler's monumental "Symphony of a Thousand", written at the
turn of the last century. The ancient Latin hymn "Veni, creator spiritus" pleads
throughout the first half, and after an interlude for the orchestra comes the
reply, based on the final scene of Gœthe's Faust. This super-symphony is
filled with the psychological intensity of Mahler at his most profound.
