In a fond farewell to the symphonic form,
Mendelssohn and Rachmaninov created what many consider to be their finest
musical achievements. But before the WDR Symphony Orchestra presents the German
composer's "Italian" Symphony, composed in 1833, the graceful baton of Maestro
Semyon Bychkov will dance to the music of a more folkloric and festive Dvořák.
The concert concludes with the quickened pulse of the Russian post-romantic
composer. It is a challenging program gracefully conquered by a German orchestra
with six successful decades of performing under their belts.
