Erich Kunzel's Soundtracks Music Box
Film and music aficionados are joined together this Saturday, 21st February, at 8 p.m., at the Macao Cultural Centre Grand Auditorium, to recall and reminisce over the greatest movie hits of all times, such as Gone With the Wind, Chariots of Fire, The Sound of Music, Raiders of the Lost Ark, Jesus Christ Superstar, Titanic or Star Wars, and the orchestral pop music that filled them with life and indelible emotion.
After a 50-year-long career as a professional conductor, mainly as leader of the Cincinnati Pops, Conductor Erich Kunzel has lost count of all the full houses he has drawn since he opted to build on the first stone set by Conductor Arthur Fiedler. Fiedler and his Boston Pops – the first official pops orchestra in the world – successfully introduced classical music to a wider audience by blending well-known classical pieces with tunes from the musical theater, popular culture and cinema. For Saturday’s performance, dedicated to film soundtracks, Erich Kunzel brings us a programme certainly true to Fiedler’s legacy and cause.
Hailed by the Chicago Tribune as "The Prince of Pops", Maestro Kunzel has a long experience and a unique style that have resulted in the sales of over 10 million recordings, culminating in several Grammy Awards, the distinguished Grand Prix du Disque, the Sony Tiffany Walkman Award for "visionary recording activities", and even the National Medal of Arts, presented in 2006 by President Bush. In 1996, the Fourth of July concert drew a record crowd of nearly a million people to the Capitol representing the most spectacular figure in concert history.
An absolute premiere in Macau, this is a concert not to be missed on the 21st February at the Cultural Centre! Tickets for the concert are available at all Kong Seng Ticketing outlets at MOP 120, 80 (Telephone Bookings: 2855 5555). More information available at: www.icm.gov.mo/om.
