Organized by the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC, from the Portuguese acronym), the 2018 Macao International Parade in celebration of the 19th anniversary of Macao’s Handover to China, will be held on 16 December (Sunday). In order to bring a lively atmosphere to local community and campuses, the Organizer invited artists from a number of foreign performing groups to host community workshops and performances in campuses. Interested individuals and schools are welcome to register.
“Paper Limitless”, one of the community workshops of the Parade, conducted by the Artistic Intervention Projects (PIA) from Portugal, will be held on 22, 23, 26 and 28 November, from 7:30pm to 10pm, will teach the participants how to make stiff cardboard, face masks and props by using simple materials in English. The community workshops “Circus Tricks”, conducted by Lívia Mattos from Brazil, will be held on 10 and 11 December, from 8pm to 9:30pm. The artist will share her circus tricks and secret skills on musical creation in English (with translation in Cantonese). The community workshops will be held at the Old Court Building. Interested parties can register through the “Activity Registration System” on the IC’s website at www.icm.gov.mo/eform/event from 13 November, subject to availability. In addition, several foreign performing groups were invited by the Parade in conjunction with the popular project “Lectures on Cultural Topics”, to offer performances and share their experience in campuses in the early and mid-December. On 5 December, Artistic Intervention Projects (PIA) from Portugal will explore the possibilities of street art and public spaces with students. This activity is for senior secondary students. On 11 and 12 December, Lívia Mattos Circus Show from Brazil will present “Circus Encounter”, taking students into the circus tent and sharing with them the creative music and body movement of circus. The activity is for junior secondary students. Both activities will be conducted in Portuguese and English. On 13 and 14 December, Ryukyukoku Matsuri Daiko from Japan will present “Doki Doki Okinawa”, demonstrating Taiko drum-beating, sharing the music and tradition of Okinawa, and allowing students to play the drums. The activity for junior secondary students will be conducted in Chinese. Vacancies for the campus activities are limited and will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.
