Prof. Tsai, Chia-Jung: Member of the Taipei Symphony Orchestra (Trombone); Assistant Professor in the Music Department of Taipei National University of the Arts and National Taiwan University of Arts.
Mr. Chia-jung Tsai was the first Trombonist from Taiwan to obtain Germany's Konzertezamen (the highest honors conferred to music performers). He currently serves as Trombonist in the Taipei Symphony Orchestra and teaches in the music departments and graduate institutes of music at Taipei National University of the Arts, National Taiwan University of Arts, National Taipei University of Education and National Taichung University of Education.
In 1990, Tsai began studying the Trombone with the former Taiwan Provincial Symphony Orchestra's principal Trombonist Mr. Ho Chi, and was subsequently accepted as a music major by National Taiwan University of Arts (formerly National Taiwan College of Arts). During the nine years he spent in Germany, Tsai was first matriculated by Hochschule für Music Detmold, where he studied with renowned Trombonist Prof. Heinz Fadle, and subsequently obtained two degrees with the highest honors conferred (Sehr Gut): Konzertexamen Posaune and Künstlerische Reiferprüfung.
In 1991, Tsai won first place in the Trombone solo division of the Taipei Music Competition, Taiwan Province Music Competition and the 7th Annual Taipei Symphony Orchestra's New Talent Concerto Competition. Beginning in 1996, he competed in a number of international competitions and went on to the final round in Germany's Leipzig Wettbeweb der Hochschulen, France's Guibeweile and Korea's Jeju International Brass Competition.
Since 1995 Tsai has been invited to perform Trombone concertos with the following orchestras: Taipei Symphony Orchestra, Taipei National University of the Arts Wind Symphony, Taiwan Wind Ensemble, Taipei County Teachers Wind Symphony, China Youth Corps Wind Orchestra, Sound By Ourselves Wind Ensemble, Shin Shiang Wind Ensemble, Taipei Sirens Symphonic Winds and National Chiao Tung University Wind Symphony. Tsai has also worked with many outstanding conductors over the years, including Prof. Shu-han Yeh, Prof. Yuan-fu Hsieh, Prof. Chan Wang, Prof. Shun-fa Chen and Mr. Ying-chung Chang.
The "Chia-jung Tsai Trombone Recital: Eternal Light Series Tour," the National Theater and Concert Hall's "Heavyweight Soloist Series- Chi-jung Tsai's Trombone Recital" and Taipei Symphony Orchestra's soloist series "Hall of the Heart- Chia-jung Tsai's Trombone Recital" were previously held in 2003, 2005, 2008 and 2015 respectively.
