CARLOS MARREIROS BIOGRAPHY

Born in Macao (1957). After studies in Portugal, Germany and Sweden, returned to Macao (1983). Architect by profession, he is also a painter, an universitary professor and a writer on fine arts, architecture, culture and heritage. His works have been published in Portuguese, Chinese and English.

In recognition of his activities and contribution to the art world was awarded the Medal of Cultural Merit (1987) by the Governor of Macao. Former Artistic Director and Deputy Director of“Revista de Cultura" ("Review of Culture") which has been published since 1987 by the Instituto Cultural de Macau (Cultural Institute of Macao) of which he was an acting President (1989-1992).

Has taken part in numerous individual and group exhibitions in Belgium, Germany, Hong Kong, India, Japan, Macao, Malaysia, the Philippines, Portugal, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan and the People's Republic of China. Was awarded the Special Prize for Creativity (1985) and the First Prize (1987) in the Western Painting category, respectivelly in the Second and Fourth Collective Exhibitions of Macao Artists organized by the Leal Senado of Macao. Was awarded the First Prize (1993) in the Drawing category and the Second Prize (1995) in the Sculpture category respectively in the First and Second Biennale of Art of Macao.

He is the founding member of the Circle of Friends of Culture of Macao (1985) and has presided over the group since. He is Visiting Professor at the National Academy of Fine Arts of the Shanghai University (1992-1997).
