Founded in 1920, the Lithuanian National Opera Chorus became its country’s first professional chorus under Julius Štarka. Led by Chief Chorus Master Česlovas Radžiūnas since 1989, the chorus now consists of 80 active members divided evenly with 40 female and 40 male voices. With a sizeable repertoire covering over 50 operas, it performs in all current Lithuanian National Opera and Ballet Theatre productions. On both the concert and the recital stage, the Chorus has presented a number of large-scale works and given several Lithuanian premieres. It has collaborated with such distinguished Lithuanian conductors as Jonas Aleksa, Vytautas Viržonis, Martynas Staškus, Gintaras Rinkevičius, Juozas Domarkas, Rimas Geniušas, Julius Geniušas and Liutauras Balčiūnas. The Chorus has toured internationally, performing in both opera productions and choral concerts. In the evocative ambience of St. Dominic’s Church, internationally acclaimed Lithuanian choral works are united on on unforgettable programme with masterpieces for chorus by renowned Italian opera composer Giacomo Puccini and the Russian late-Romantic genius of Rachmaninoff.
