Macao General Association of Cantonese Opera and Music

Cantonese Opera in Concert – I, II

30/4, 1/5 (Saturday, Sunday)
7:30pm     Cinema Alegria     Tickets: MOP 50, 30

Originally a genre of Chinese Opera, Cantonese Opera was first introduced during the early years of the reign of Emperor Daoguang (1820-1850) in the Qing Dynasty. The art form soon emerged as the most prevalent regional operatic genre in Guangdong Province and today enjoys extensive popularity in Guangdong, Hong Kong, Macao and much of the expatriate Chinese communities. Following its successful inclusion in UNESCO’s Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2009, Cantonese Opera has gained increasing public attention and popularity.

The Macao General Association of Cantonese Opera and Music is committed to the active promotion and dissemination of the art and culture of Cantonese Opera, as well as the music of Guangdong. For this edition of the Macao Arts Festival, the Association presents selections from the classic repertoire performed by an all-star cast over two consecutive evenings. Join in the celebration of this timeless art form!
