Throughout his 30-year career as a multi-instrumentalist, composer and producer, Latin Grammy Award-winner ["Best World Music Album", for Santiago with the Chieftains, 1997] Júlio Pereira has pursued artistic endeavours guided by a sense of the universality of cultural manifestations. His work strives to incorporate Portuguese tradition into the aesthetic currents that have characterised a varied succession of “contemporaneities”, and his oeuvre is devoted to recovering the nearly-lost sounds of traditional instruments. He has also worked toward a synthesis of traditional sounds with new and ever-changing acoustic possibilities. As a result, Júlio Pereira has risen to the stature of a major figure in the world of late 20th-century Portuguese music.

“Effectively, we sense a perfect musical synergy. This is probably one of the factors that contributes to Júlio Pereira's success: a knowledge of how to merge various resources, intentions and emotions that is simply perfect.”
Sara Louraço Vidal, in Portal do Fado
