Vienna Boys’ Choir

Oct. 11, Thursday     St. Dominic's Church     Free admission

In 1498, Emperor Maximilian I engaged twelve boys to sing with his imperial court orchestra. Through the centuries, with the support of the Habsburg monarchs, the Royal Boys’ Choir became an internationally recognized part of Austrian musical life. World-class musicians and composers such as Haydn, Schubert, and Mozart trained with or wrote for the Boys’ Choir, and modern composers such as Benjamin Britten and Leonard Bernstein have also been guest conductors. Today it is known around the world as The Vienna Boys’ Choir. With 100 singers between the ages of 10 and 14, the Choir continues its five-hundred-year tradition of delighting music lovers with its angelic tones.

The Vienna Boys’ Choir programme for this year’s Music Festival will include sacred music, Austrian folk songs and waltzes, as well as popular songs. The concert will be held in St. Dominic’s Church. Seats are limited and admission is free, so make sure to arrive well ahead of time!
