Patois Play

Dóci Papiaçám di Macao Drama Group

22 - 23/3/2003 20:00     Macao Tower Auditorium     120

“Macaísta” theatre symbolises the diversification of the dramatic arts in Macao. The use of Macao’s unique patois onstage represents both a tradition and an identity, the very special life of a community marked by its constant ability to adapt to its environment. It also reflects the ability of this city, where so many different languages and people meet, to absorb and value each community. The main feature of patois drama is its focus on everyday events using a rich and amusing language, even though it sometimes harsh and malicious undertones. Your Mum’s Here opens a window onto the life of Eurico, obsessed with planning out his life and doing everything at the right time. He has married Marilda and set up a dream home equipped with everything imaginable. Now he is back from the honeymoon and preparing to enjoy life in the sole company of his lovely wife… but it seems somebody else wants to set up home with them. His mother-in-law! Eurico tries every trick in the book to get rid of her, to no avail. After reaching breaking point, he realises that life is far from perfect, and surprises are what make us human.
