Tickets for the five scheduled performances of the 27th Macao International Music Festival (MIMF) closing show, the Broadway musical Miss Saigon, are nearly sold out. In order not to let music fans down, the Cultural Affairs Bureau has added an extra show at 10.30am on 4th November (Monday). Tickets will be on sale from this Tuesday (20th August) at 10am, at all Kong Seng Ticketing Network counter sales, online and through the ticketing hotline 2855 555. Each person can purchase up to ten tickets at a time.
In Miss Saigon, Alain Boublil and Claude-Michel Schönberg (the creators of the musical Les Misérables), along with Richard Maltby, Jr., bring Puccini's Madame Butterfly to the modern world in a moving testament to the human spirit and a scathing indictment of the tragedies of war. In the turmoil of the Vietnam War, an American soldier and a Vietnamese girl fall in love, only to be separated during the fall of Saigon. Raw and uncompromising, Miss Saigon is an intensely personal story of the losses we suffer and the sacrifices we make in a world gone mad.
The Festival’s programme includes, as usual, the two local orchestras. The Macao Orchestra takes to the Cultural Centre’s stage together with the Korean Chamber Orchestra in the concert A Hero’s Life, bringing audiences stirring renditions of Strauss' signature work, as well as his final composition! The Macao Chinese Orchestra presents evergreen melodies from China's classic films and television dramas in the concert Chinese Music for Television and Film, bringing audiences to revisit past decades and weaving musical tones and literary classics into tapestries of romance.
The violin recital of the South Korean musician Kyung-Wha Chung is a must-see for violin lovers. Born into a musical family in South Korea, Kyung-wha Chung studied at the prestigious Juilliard School in New York and reached International fame after winning the prestigious Leventritt Competition, in 1967. Throughout her life as a violin soloist and recitalist, she has garnered global recognition of the very highest stature and has collaborated with the world’s finest orchestras. A concert not to be missed by one of the world’s most reputed violinists.
Extra backstage tours will also be added for “Aida – Opera in 4 Acts by Giuseppe Verdi”, to take place on 12th October at 11 am, and for “Miss Saigon – The Musical”, to be held on 2nd November at 11am. Vacancies are available in limited numbers and to register interested members of the public must present their respective festival tickets.
