Call for papers for the Review of Culture: Macao as a "Culture City of East Asia 2025"

Macao has been selected as a "Culture City of East Asia 2025", and the Government will launch a programme of activities this year under the theme "East–West Encounter, Asia in Harmony" to showcase the unique cultural appeal of the city. To explore, in a greater depth, the historical and cultural significance of the city as an important node along the Maritime Silk Road, the Review of Culture (RC) is now launching a call for papers related to the theme by academics and specialists, at national and international level.

This issue delves into various aspects of Macao’s art, history and culture, as well as the city’s global interactions, while the highlight falls on the 250th anniversary of the birth of George Chinnery. To commemorate this English artist who is widely known for his remarkable landscape paintings of 19th-century Macao and his pioneering role in export paintings, the first section explores Chinnery’s work exhibited at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London and discusses the peak period of the export painting market in Canton.

Cultural Affairs Bureau publishes Chinese edition of The Making of Macau's Fusion Cuisine

In order to promote and disseminate Macanese gastronomy, an item of local intangible cultural heritage, the Cultural Affairs Bureau published the Chinese edition of The Making of Macau's Fusion Cuisine: From Family Table to World Stage, aiming to make more readers aware of the current status of Macanese gastronomy and its influence and history of dissemination throughout Asia.

Review of Culture International Edition No. 75 Commemoration of the half millennium of Camões and a variety of Macao studies

The current issue of the Review of Culture (RC) starts with two articles dedicated to commemorate the half millennium of the birth of Luís de Camões. The first article explores the vitality of the Camonian epic, revealing its unique position within Portuguese literature and its reinterpretation across centuries. The second one highlights the significance of the Camões Garden and Grotto in 18th century Macao, demonstrating its position as a cultural landmark through foreign travellers' accounts.
