Summary

This work comprises the papers presented at the seminar "Jesuits in India: in Historical Perspective", held in Goa in November 1989, to commemorate the 450th anniversary of the forming of the Jesuit order, the 5th birth centenary of St. Ignatius of Loyola, and the centenary of the new "Goa Mission" of the restored Society in India. This seminar dealt with the problems and the role of the Jesuit Order in the history and the development of the Third World and makes an impartial assessment of its members' involvement in India.
