This study addresses a challenging area of debate in contemporary social science: to what extent do material cultures and traditions influence people's attitudes and activities? This study explores the changes and differences in the cultural attitudes and activities of two generations relating to their socio-economic and political environments. It examines various material traditions and their differing historical developments and realities, demonstrates how they impact on the attitudes and habits of two generations and considers questions of cultural identity, ethos, etc. As actors negotiate their roles in society.
