
A Guzheng musician of the China Broadcasting Chinese Orchestra, a Council member of the Guzheng Committee of the Chinese Musicians Association, Head of the Guzheng Arts Center of the Beijing Huaxia Zhan Wang and Vice president of the Chinese Guzheng Association.
Zhou Zhan has won awards at major competitions, including The National Chinese Instrumental Music Competition (Nanjing); The ‘Oriental Cup’, a National Guzheng Competition by the Ministry of Culture of China (Shanghai) and The International Chinese Instrumental Music Competition (Beijing).
He has published a VCD of teaching materials, An Analysis of Famous Guzheng Pieces, a CD, Chinese Guzheng Pieces, and a solo album Zhou Zhan Guzheng China. Moreover, he has compiled and published One Hundred Courses on Guzheng, Guzheng Ensemble Pieces, and Chinese Guzheng Course (co-author), a pioneering Guzheng course in five-line staff in China. He has also created a new teaching system ‘Chinese Guzheng’ – a course in five-line staff – with his specially designed ‘strings of five colours’ registered as a national patent. His adaptations include: The Soil of Qin (winner of the Outstanding Melody at the 10th Chinese Golden Bell Awards), Dream of Lin'an, Tune of Paulownia Kawakamii, Emerald, and A Qupai Tune in Qin Melody.
