Niu, Fanqiong

A graduate with an MA in Yangqin from the Central Conservatory of Music, Niu Fanqiong teaches at SCOM.
He studied Yangqin from a young age with Cao Jianhui, a special grade teacher. Later, he studied at the Secondary Music School, affiliated to SCOM, and then SCOM, before entering the Central Conservatory of Music, where he received solid training from Lu Lin, Ying Haotong, associate professor Cheng Haihua, and professor Huang He.
Niu Fanqiong won several awards: the Bronze Award in the Young Professionals’ Group at the 1st National Youth Chinese Instrumental Music Solo Competition; the Golden Award in the Traditional Group at the 2nd CCTV Chinese Instrumental Music Competition; the Golden Award in the Adult Professionals’ Group at the 3rd U.S. Flying World Cup – International Chinese Instrumental Music Competition; the Golden Award in the Group A of Young Teachers at the 1st Chinese Yangqin Arts Festival, where his piece Dream won the Outstanding Performance Award, in October, 2012; the Outstanding Teacher Award at the 2014 International Youth Dulcimer Competition (Grand Final) of Youth Music Cup in June, 2014. Moreover, he held Dulcimer and Love – Yangqin Recital by Niu Fanqiong at the He Luting Concert Hall in June 2013.
Niu Fanqiong has toured Germany, United Kingdom, and France for cultural exchanges. He has also performed at important events like the APEC Meeting; the Asian Development Bank’s annual meeting; the Hamburg – Shanghai Week; the ASEAN Summit; ‘The National Centre for the Performing Arts’ Chinese Instrumental Music Series – Concert by the China Broadcasting Chinese Orchestra’; ‘Chinese Music Feasts – Concert by the China National Traditional Orchestra’; Joyful Chinese New Year; Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon; and the 32nd Shanghai Spring International Music Festival – Ode To Peace, which marked the 70th anniversary of the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and Fascism.
