To celebrate the 25th edition (silver jubilee) of the Lusofonia Festival, starting this year, one of the cultures of the participating countries and regions will be highlighted in this annual event. This year, the Macanese culture will be given greater prominence with Macanese gastronomy and handicraft shows.
The event will also offer diversified activities to the public, such as the display of cultural exhibitors from the 10 Portuguese-speaking communities residing in Macau, namely Angola, Brazil, Cape Verde, Guinea Bissau, Goa, Daman and Diu, Mozambique, Portugal, São Tomé and Príncipe, East Timor and the Macanese community where they will showcase music, arts, images, crafts, traditional costumes, literature, tourist information, and typical snacks and drinks of their countries or regions.
During the three days of the Festival, an art group from Mainland China and around 30 Portuguese-speaking art groups from Macao will perform different genres of music and dance on the main stage at the Amphitheatre of Taipa Houses and give light music performances on the stage at Largo do Carmo. The Festival’s temporary restaurant, operating in the Taipa Municipal Garden, will serve grilled food and typical Portuguese specialties, while at Largo do Carmo, specialties from the various participating countries and regions will be served at dinner. There will also be a temporary kiosk serving typical Portuguese snacks and drinks next to the entrance to the Taipa Houses. Furthermore, on Saturday and Sunday afternoons, visitors of all ages can also participate in the Portuguese traditional games such as climbing the tallow stick, ski race, tug of war, sack race, as well as table football tournaments and various games for children.
Over the years, the Lusofonia Festival has become an important event for introducing the cultures of Portuguese-speaking communities to the public and showcasing Macao's role as a platform for cultural exchange between China and Portuguese-speaking countries.
