Shiu, born in Hong Kong, began his trombone studies at the age of 14, and was a three-time winner of the Senior Trombone Solo in the Hong Kong Schools Music Festival. He studied at the Cleveland Institute of Music on a full scholarship and graduated with a Master of Music in Trombone Performance, being the first Chinese to earn this degree. An active soloist, educator, chamber musician and trombone endorser, Shiu currently teaches at Chinese Culture University and Shih Chien University. His students hold positions in major symphony orchestras in Asia. He has given masterclasses throughout Asia, toured extensively as a soloist, and performed with several leading concert bands from Hong Kong.
