Quek Ling Kiong

Quek is the Resident Conductor of Singapore Chinese Orchestra (SCO). He has received the Young Artist Award and the Cultural Fellowship from the National Arts Council in Singapore, the Meritorious Award from the Composers and Authors Society of Singapore. In 2018, he was awarded Personality of the Year in Singapore by Lianhe Zaobao.

He attained his Bachelor’s degree at Shanghai Conservatory of Music, then pursued Conducting Studies in Zurich, and obtained his Diploma in Advanced Studies from Zurich University of the Arts in 2008. He studied Chinese and Western classical percussion under Li Min Xiong and Xue Bao Lun, and learnt conducting from Tay Teow Kiat, Xia Fei Yun, Tsung Yeh, Johannes Schlaefli and Jorma Panula.
In 1997, Quek joined SCO as Percussion Principal. His career in professional conducting took off after becoming SCO’s first Conducting Assistant in 2003. In 2004, he became Assistant Conductor, and was promoted to Associate Conductor in 2008. He is regularly invited to be the guest conductor with orchestras, including Shanghai Chinese Orchestra, Guangdong National Orchestra, Changchun Chinese Orchestra, Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra, The Macao Chinese Orchestra, Kaohsiung Chinese Orchestra.
In 2019, Singapore Management University established Quek Ling Kiong Arts and Cultural Scholarship to support undergraduates venturing into arts management.
