
Yi-chun Wang started playing horn at the age of 12. She entered National Taiwan Normal University (NTNU) for a BA degree, studied horn with Sau-Yuan Chuang. As a soloist, she performed several concertos with the NTNU Symphonic Band. (R. Strauss: Concerto No.1, Zdechlik: Horn Concerto and Saint-Saens: Morceau de Concert op.94). She was the principal horn of China Youth Corp Youth Band and Wind Ensemble affiliated to Taiwan Symphonic Orchestra.
In 1999, Ms. Wang won The British Council Arts Scholarship and entered The Royal Academy of Music in London, studied horn with Michael Thompson, an international soloist, and Derek Taylor, formal principal horn of the BBC Symphony. In school, she had won the Picker Award and Nicholas Black Prize. She performed concerto of Mozart with RAM Historic Brass Band and Schumann’s Konzertstuck with RAM Concert Orchestra. She was also invited to play in the National Young Musicians’ Festival and Croydon Brass Festival. She received the Diploma of Postgraduate performance in 2001.
Back to Taiwan, Ms. Wang involved in chamber music and solo performances actively. From 2002 to 2010, she had been nonstop holding several solo recitals. She plays concertos with Taipei Symphony Orchestra, Philharmonia Moments Musicaux and Taipei Century Symphony Orchestra.
Ms. Wang is now the Assistant Principle Horn of Taipei Symphony Orchestra.
