Taste Life: A Dialogue between Chua Lam and Liu Zhenyun

To adhere to the development direction of consolidating Macao as "a hub of exchange and co-operation where traditional Chinese culture prevails and other cultures flourish in harmony", the Cultural Affairs Bureau of the Macao SAR Government and the China National Publications Import & Export (Group) Corporation have jointly organized the 2nd Encounter in Macao—Arts and Cultural Festival between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries: Macao International Book Fair 2019. During the book fair, an array of events, including talks delivered by writers, book launches, seminars on China–PSC publishing culture and cookbook publisher salons, will be held to promote in-depth cooperation regarding copyright trading and publishing among Portuguese-speaking countries, countries along the "Belt and Road" route and China, with the ultimate goals to invigorate the book publishing market and stimulate cultural development in Macao. Content: Food has numerous flavors and to taste one more flavor would be a blessing in life. The harvesting, preservation, and cooking of food, as well as the taste in memory, eating customs, cultural patterns, and family emotions preserved and passed on in the process, greatly enrich the connotation and extension of gourmet food and endow food with poetic and picturesque charm. You travel, you entertain, and you eat. Wherever you are and whatever you eat, the status of being on the way always seems comforting. This activity is intended to invite Chua Lam to hold a dialogue with Liu Zhenyun. The two will share their perceptions and understanding about fine food, travel, and life, inviting readers and the audience to taste the world and experience life.

Chua Lam
Chua Lam, writer, gourmet, traveller, filmmaker, general consultant to A Bite of China, guest speaker to Voice, and known as one of “The Four Talents of Hong Kong” together with Louis Cha, Ni Kuang, and James Wong. His essays revolve around dining, drinking, literature & art, films, old friends, and scenery, covering a wide range of themes. He once authored a best-seller, Travel Notes on Food

 

Liu Zhenyun
Liu Zhenyun, one of the most famous writers in contemporary China. Liu’s works include: Tofu, Remembering 1942, Someone to Talk To, I Did Not Kill My Husband, etc. Throughout the years, Liu’s works have been translated into over twenty languages including English, French and German. He has been awarded with many prestigious prizes such as Mao Dun Literature Awards” and “Knight of the Order of Arts and Letters” from the Minister of Culture of France. Many of Liu’s books have also been adapted into movies and awarded in international film festivals.
