Since last Saturday, over 400 contestants have already competed in fifteen categories of the 22nd Macao Youth Music Competition (MYMC). Showing all they have learnt, the contestants did their best to contend for awards in the competition and have won approvals from the judges. Winners of the events were announced on Monday.

The competition for Erhu Solo Group A (Beginner Level) was successfully held in the Auditorium of the Macao Museum. Eleven-year-old Chan Io Ieong won the first prize with his skilful performance; Fong Kai Neng won the second prize with 89 points; Chong Hou Teng and Chan Ka Man both won a third prize. A discussion was held after the competition. Yan Jie Min, an Eruist and an associate professor of Central Conservatory of Music, taught the contestants skills for playing Erhu. She has also played two songs for demonstration, winning much applause from the audiences.

The Flute Solo Group C competition was held in the Macao Polytechnic Institute. Kou Pui I won the first prize with 93 points and Che Wai Si won the second prize with only two points difference. Out of 21 contestants in the Flute Solo Group A competition, Wong Ieng Wai won the first prize with 92 points. The second and third prize winners, Cheng Iek Si (88) and Pong Chon Iok (87), won the competition with only one point difference.

The Violin Concerto competition, which was held in the Macao Cultural Centre, has two first prize winners. Lou Cheong Tat and Hong Iat U both won the first prize with 92 points. Ao Ieong Kim Fong won the second price. There was no third prize winner because other contestants could not reach the standard. In the Viola, Violoncello, Double Bass Concerto competition, Chong Weng Man won the first prize with 91 points and Ho Io Peng won the second prize with 88 points.

The above winners will be able to perform in the “Concert of the Winners” which will take place at 20:00 on May 23 in the Auditorium of the Macao Polytechnic Institute. The Cultural Institute will also invite some of the outstanding winners of the last and present MYMC to perform with famous cellist Qin Liwei in the “Flourishing Art” Concert, which will be held in the Grand Auditorium of the Macao Cultural Centre at 20:00 on May 29.
