The 22nd Macao Youth Music Competition will be held in early May. Recently, the Cultural Institute of the Macao SAR Government organized 16 music workshops to provide more learning opportunities for the competitors. This weekend (April 17 and 18), four music workshops, including chamber music for wind instruments, percussion, violin and piano sonata, and string, wind and percussion ensembles, will be held in the Macao Museum and the Macao Conservatory. Entrance is Free.

Hosted by Liu Kai Ni, the chamber music for wind instruments workshop will be held this Saturday from 15:00 to 18:00 in the Macao Museum’s auditorium. A graduate of the National Taiwan University of Arts and Detmold Music Academy in Germany, Liu, is presently a clarinetist in the Macao Orchestra. Other than the chamber music for wind instruments workshop, Liu will also be hosting the string, wind and percussion ensemble workshop in the Macao Museum this Sunday from 14:00 to 17:00.

The percussion workshop, which will be hosted by Wai-Wa Raymond Leung, will be held this Sunday from 11:00 to 14:00 in the Macao Conservatory. Wai-Wa Raymond Leung began his percussion studies in 1979 and furthered his study in the School of Music of the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, with a major in Western percussion. After graduation, Leung joined the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra as percussionist. Besides being a percussion performer, he is also the instructor of the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts and the Baptist University.

Another workshop, the string, wind and percussion ensemble workshop will be held at the same time with the percussion workshop in the Macao Conservatory. Hsueh Chih Chang, principal of the Macao Conservatory, will host this workshop. Hsueh graduated from the National Taiwan University of Arts and Detmold Music Academy in Germany and was a violinist in Detmold Orchestra.
