Vases – White Lotus in the Spring

Diameter: 1.15 m Height: 1.999 m

The gift was presented by the People’s Government of Heilongjiang Province to celebrate Macao’s return to the People’s Republic of China. This pair of vases is made of walnut shell, agate and jade. The vase bodies are composed of walnut shells selected from 10,000 walnuts grown in Xiao Xing’an Forest. The texture of the walnut shells adds a hollowing out effect to the vases. The bases are carved with designs of pine leaves and branches, representing the forests in the province. The arms are decorated with white lotuses carved out of white jade, symbolising the flower of Macao. The jade rings hanging from the arms enhance the elegance of the work.

The vases are 1.999 metres tall, signifying the year 1999. The vases stand 0.37 metres tall to represent the warm wishes from all the 37 million people of the province.
