Stone Carving – Prosperous Spring-land

Length: 0.85 m Width: 0.4 m Height: 0.83 m

The gift was presented by the People’s Government of Fujian Province to celebrate Macao’s return to the People’s Republic of China. Made of the precious Shoushan stone from the province, the work is carved using traditional freestanding, relief and open work techniques. Carved from the colourful and glossy Shoushan stone, this sculpture is a beautiful example of one of China’s famous traditional arts. Before starting work on such a project, the craftsman always carefully studies the shape, colour and the texture of the chosen stone. By retaining the natural beauty of the stone and combining it with artistic skills, the best possible result can finally be achieved.

This work depicts towering banyan trees against the beautiful backdrop of Wuyi Mountain. The scene is decorated with pavilions, characters, a bamboo raft, and birds. The clouds and the water unite the scene and patterns. The gift represents the development of the Motherland and the good wishes of Fujian people for Macao’s return.
