Length: 0.55 m Width: 0.41 m Length: 2.01 m

The gift was presented by the People’s Government of Shanghai Municipality to celebrate Macao’s return to the People’s Republic of China. The artist of the piece expresses Shanghai people’s celebration in a modern, creative way. Made of crystal and depicting a magnolia, the symbol of Shanghai, the flower has smooth, natural curves representing the future of Shanghai to be full of hope and vigour as well as Shanghai people’s good wishes to Macao and their hopes for the region’s continuous prosperity.

Soaring from the middle of the magnolia is a group of Shanghai’s landmark buildings made of 18K gold. The buildings featured in the work include the Oriental Pearl Radio and TV Tower, Jinmao Building, Shanghai Grand Theatre, Shanghai Museum, Shanghai Library and Yangpu Bridge, all of which have witnessed the dramatic development of Shanghai over the past two decades. Decorated by 50 small magnolias carved out of white jade, they also symbolise the remarkable achievement that Shanghai has made in 50 years since the establishment of the People’s Republic of China.
