Alexander Scriabin is a great music innovator and composer in Russia and has written ten sonatas in his early, middle and late years, and they are all a record of the change in his thoughts and composition styles throughout his lifetime. As the first pianist in China to give a public performance of the ten sonatas by Scriabin, and the first in the world to play all of them in a single concert, Chen Yunjie has performed this repertoire in a number of concerts and those in Shanghai, Guangzhou and Quanzhou were well received by music aficionados with tickets highly sought after. In this Festival, Chen will not only perform once again but also share insights on Scriabin’s pieces—his favourite music—with music aficionados.

Chen is one of the most outstanding young pianists in China today and is currently serving as an associate professor at the Piano Department of the Central Conservatory of Music. He has finished his studies at the Manhattan School of Music, Juilliard School and Cleveland Institute of Music with a bachelor’s degree, master’s degree and Artist Diploma respectively, and has garnered awards in many international competitions. He has performed a recital concert at the John F. Kennedy Centre for the Performing Arts and held performances in cities across Europe, Americas and Asia, including a concert tour around European countries.
